Strictly Come Dancing: Brendan Cole to partner Holly Valance as partner Artem Chigvintsev suffers back injury

A SERIOUS back injury has forced Artem Chigvintsev out of Saturday’s Strictly Come Dancing – and threatened his future in the series.

Brendan Cole, axed last week with Lulu, will now partner Holly Valance and may be back for some time.

Insiders say it will be “at least two weeks” before Artem, 29, is back to full strength and the Russian dancer said: “I’m sad not to be dancing with Holly, but I’m grateful that Brendan is to fill my dancing shoes. They will be fantastic.”

Holly, 28, added: “I’m disappointed I won’t be dancing with Artem this weekend, but Brendan is an awesome guy and we’re working hard for this Saturday’s show.”

Brendan, 35, who will rumba to Will Young’s Leave Right Now, said: “I’ll do my upmost to help. I’m excited to dance with Holly.”

A Strictly spokesman said: “Artem is suffering a combination of joint and soft tissue injury. He needs rest.”

Brendan Cole – who recently danced with Holly Valance as a temporary replacement for Artem Chigvintsev after he fractured a bone in his spine – has been drafted in after Robin’s foot became infected and he was prescribed antibiotics and told to take it easy.

Brendan – who was eliminated from this series along with singer Lulu earlier this month – can’t wait to work with Anita and he is delighted his fellow dancers ‘trust’ him to stand-in for them.

He explained: ‘I’m chuffed that Artem, and now Robin, trust me enough to ask me to step in.

‘I’m excited to be working with Anita and I will be doing my utmost to get her through to next week.’

Robin has taken to his twitter account to reveal his disappointment at missing out on the show, but he expressed his gratitude to Brendan for stepping in for him.

He tweeted: ‘I’m absolutely devastated that I wont be able to dance this week. Thank you @TheBrendan_Cole for stepping in yet again.’

A source told The Sun newspaper: ‘Robin is not exactly at death’s door but he has got a dodgy foot so it’s only fair that Anita has a fully functioning partner this weekend.

‘He’s on antibiotics and should be as right as rain for the week after — assuming Anita stays in.’

Just over a week ago, Brendan Cole came to the Holly Valance’s rescue when her partner Artem Chigvintsev fractured his spine.

And it looks like the New Zealand dancer is turning out to be this series’ knight in shining armour after stepping in to practise with Anita Dobson this week.

Dobson’s professional partner Robin Windsor has contracted an infection in his foot and has been ordered to rest and go on a course of antibiotics by his doctors.
